Geography of Bath.
 
Bath, which is located in the Avon Valley and close to the southern edge of the Cotswolds, an area designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is surrounded by limestone hills. The limestone Mendip Hills rise about 7 miles (11 km) south of the city. On the Lansdown plateau, the hills that encircle and comprise the city reach an elevation of 781 feet (238 metres). Bath spans 11 square miles (28 square km) in size.

The A4 motorway, which passes through Bath, connects Bath to the bigger city and port of Bristol at a distance of around 11 miles (18 km).
