To provide structural support to an oriel window, there’s usually a decorative bracket or corbel of wood, stone, or masonry underneath the windows.
Circular bay windows are less common but they are distinct enough to have their own category. They are defined by larger panes of glass on the three sides of the bay and additional panes above the windows. Circle bay windows typically feature the most intricate moldings and ornamental details of any type of bay window.
Bay windows are the combination of three or more windows that angle out beyond the exterior wall but are normally built to be from the ground up. They can even be installed as four projection angles to include up to a 90 degree box bay. As the bay window protrudes outside the exterior wall, you will be able to enjoy an extended view and even additional space for maybe extra seating, table or a TV.
Just like bay windows, bow windows extend beyond the exterior wall, but are not built from the ground up. Bow windows sweep away from the wall in an arch shape of 3 or more windows. Bow windows are typically larger than the bay window style and has more glass area because of a curve without corners. As with bay windows, you could add a window seat to your bow window depending on the height of your bow window. If you are adding a bench seat below your window, it’s wise to consider building in extra storage.
